Asus addresses Transformer Prime GPS issues


Citing consumers’ concerns that the GPS functionality on the Transformer Prime TF201 tablet “has not met some users’ expectations,” Asus will open up registration for a fix—a GPS Extension kit—starting on Monday, April 16. The move comes after reports of weak reception of GPS satellites on the tablet , leading to an inability to determine its location under some conditions. In a rare move, Asus had removed mention of GPS as a feature from its online specifications

Amazon announces it will lower e-book prices


Following yesterday’s news of the Department of Justice suit against Apple and a group of major publishers for e-book price fixing, Amazon.com announced it would cut prices on its e-books. The cost of a popular title could fall from $14.99 to as low as $9.99. According to the DOJ, the accused publishers secretly colluded with Apple to set e-book retail prices.

The promise of bendable electronic paper displays for e-book readers is a lot closer at hand—at least for European consumers. Korean giant LG announced it has ramped up production of its 6-inch flexible plastic e-paper display components and expects them to be featured in consumer devices for Europe at the beginning of next month. According to LG’s press release, the display features a high-definition XGA (1024×768 pixel) set-up of black-and-white electronic ink.
