Toshiba continues its quest to cover a gamut of tablet shapes and sizes with the introduction of the Excite 7.7, so named because of its screen size. The company already offers a 7-inch model, two 10.1-inch tablets (including a very thin one), and a 13-inch model that’s promised for this fall that will be bigger than any tablet available. Touch and feel.

Venturing into a screen size that was once the exclusive province of rear-projection TVs, Sharp yesterday introduced the 90-inch Aquos LC-90LE745U, an LCD TV whose $11,000 price tag is as impressively large as its screen size. Recently, Sharp has been using larger screen sizes to help differentiate itself from competitors. The LC-90LE745U is a full-featured, 3D-capable 1080p LCD set that includes a full-array LED backlight, 240Hz anti-blur technology, built-in Wi-Fi, and Sharp’s SmartCentral Internet platform with access to apps, YouTube videos, and CinemaNow, Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Vudu streaming movies and TV shows.

If you liked D-Link’s easy-to-use MovieMate streaming-media player but were hankering for a bit more content, the company will soon be launching a beefed-up version called MovieNite Plus. Though at $80 it costs a bit more than the current MovieMate—which sells for $49 at Walmart—the Plus version has access to a lot more apps and channels, and is still considerably less expensive than D-Link’s flagship streaming player, the $170 Boxee Box.

Samsung is making sure its tablets run the gamut, from large to small and from expensive to low-cost. Its latest entry, the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, is an update to its original 7-inch tablet. It’s also the most inexpensive Galaxy Tab yet, at $250 with 8GB of storage

Targeting a crowd not willing or able to spring for its more expensive—though more extensive—Boxee Box, D-Link has just released the MovieNite, a new $60 streaming-media player.

The Motorola Droid Razr Maxx, an updated version of the Motorola Droid Razr, was one of the most talked-about phones to debut at CES 2012, for one reason: It has the largest-capacity battery ever squeezed into a smart phone. The jumbo battery packs 3,300 milliamperes, where most smart-phone batteries are about half that.

The LG Spectrum , one of several promising smart phones announced at CES 2012 , just became available on Verizon for $200 with a two-year contract. This phone’s high point is its 4.5-inch high-resolution (1280 x 720) display. Supposedly borrowing technology from LG’s best TV sets, the screen, combined with the phone’s 1.5-GHz dual-core processor and ultra-fast LTE 4G connection, provided sharp and smooth video streams from HD Netflix.
